Introduction to the foundation
Dr. Pinnamaneni and Smt. Seetha Devi Foundation (PSF) was established in December 1989 by the family members of Dr. Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao and Smt. Seetha Devi in recognition of Dr. Pinnamaneni’s services in various fields of activity and Smt. Seetha Devi’s unstinted support to him as life partner.
The principal objects of PSF are:
- To honour outstanding personalities who contribute in great measure to Indian culture, fine arts, literature, sports, science and social service
- To organize cultural and literary programmes with high aesthetic values
- To sponsor extension or endowment lectures by persons of eminence in the fields of literature, arts, sciences and humanities
- To publish by itself or to aid publication of philosophical, literary, moral, social, scientific, cultural and modern literature.
To spearhead and steer the activities of the foundation, a Trust was formed with seven members. Dr.C.Nageswara Rao and Dr.Sudha joined the trust and gave the foundation a concrete shape within a short time due to their active association and untiring efforts.
An Advisory Committee consisting of prominent persons constituted by the Trust selects outstanding person(s) to be honoured every year.
Background of Dr. Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao & Smt. Seetha Devi
Dr. Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao was born on 16th December,1910 at Neppalli village near Vijayawada. Coming from a very cultured and well-known family of Vijayawada, he rose from a humble start at the school to an eminent position in Surgery.
He obtained a Post Graduate degree in Surgery in (year)….. and taught for a short time at Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam.
After a stint in Government Service, he resigned in 1950 and set up private practice in Vijayawada. Very soon, he became a leading surgeon. He was not only a competent surgeon but a medical practitioner of very high values, integrity and honesty. Relief of pain and suffering was his utmost concern. He was a loving guide, friend and philosopher to his patients. A man with a rare courage, he never tolerated mediocrity and had a great charm for excellence.
Dr. Pinnamaneni visited famous surgical clinics in USA and UK in 1970, 1977 and 1981 and kept himself abreast of the latest developments in medical science. He was a voracious reader, constantly in search of new knowledge, new concepts and new skills.
On the lighter side, Dr. Pinnamaneni was a fervent lover of sports and games, particularly of cricket.
Apart from medical services par excellence, his greatest service to the community was in the field of education. Under his leadership and guidance, Sidhartha Academy of General and Technical Education made rapid strides of progress in providing excellent educational facilities in Vijayawada.
With no medical background on his father or mother’s side, Dr. Pinnamaneni scaled great heights in the medical world and became a legend in his own life time!
Smt. Seetha Devi was a true ‘Sahadharmacharini’ in the best traditions of India. She bestowed exemplary care and attention on Dr. Pinnamaneni and played a crucial role in making him what he was. She was instrumental in his developing a love for our epics and classics in Telugu literature. They were a devoted couple who grew old together gracefully.
